Reiki History/ What is Reiki?/ Benefits of Reiki/ Reiki Treatments
Reiki is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy. Reiki was discovered in Japan has a form of healing by a Japanese Buddhist ,Dr. Usui , in 1922, it was brought to the USA in 1938. Reiki today is considered by the National Institute of Health's Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) as a bio-field therapy. How Reiki works is best explained through the balance of Energy (Chi) in the body. For example, injury, illness and trauma (emotional or physical) cause imbalances to the body, mind and spirt, thus appear in the patient as disease, pain or stress. A Reiki Healer is attuned to Reiki Energy and is able to facilitate the flow of Reiki energy to the patient, working on restoring the balance to the energetic field or bio-field the surrounds ones body. In return the human body can start to heal on it's own, once it is balanced. Reiki can be practiced on humans, animals, and to clients over geographic distance depending on the level of the Reiki Practitioner.

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. In my studies I have found that there are a couple different meanings for Reiki. The word Reiki is made up of two Japanese words- Rei(ray) which means "Universal Life Energy, Spiritual Consciousness, All-Knowing or the Higher Power" and Ki which means "Breath, Life Force, Vital Radiant Energy" Therefore Reiki is actually "Spiritually Guided Life Force Energy". While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. However in practicing Reiki, it is still extremely important to live and act in a manner that promotes balance with all things. Reiki does not take the place of Medical care but is meant to enhance any medical or psychological care one may already be receiving. Reiki Practitioners can not diagnose conditions, prescribe or perform medical procedures.
